Paving in DuPont

Asphalt paving in DuPont is shaped by its unusual history. The DuPont company bought a 5-square-mile tract in 1906 and ran an explosives plant here from 1909 until 1975. Weyerhaeuser then bought about 3,000 acres for $12 million, and decontamination of the plant site began in 1991. Most of today's city was built afterward as a master-planned community, and it is now about 95 percent built out. The population went from 2,452 in 2000 to 8,199 in 2010 and 10,151 in 2020.

Young pavement, HOA rules

Because most DuPont homes are relatively new, many driveways are still in good shape. The best value is protecting them: seal cracks before the rains, sealcoat every few years in dry weather, and fix small problems before they spread. Many DuPont neighborhoods have HOA rules on driveway appearance and changes, so check your CC&Rs before widening or resurfacing.

HOA and commercial lots

HOAs, apartment complexes and businesses in DuPont maintain shared drives and parking lots. We crack seal, sealcoat, patch and restripe on a schedule that works for residents, and we can phase work so everyone keeps access.

Hoffman Hill and slopes

About 60 percent of residents live on Hoffman Hill. Sloped driveways need careful grading to guide water off the surface, and edges need support so runoff does not undercut them.

Historic village

The old company village became a National Register historic district in 1987. Older homes there have different needs from the newer neighborhoods, often a full driveway replacement on a rebuilt base.

Permits

If your project changes a driveway approach in the public right-of-way, check with the City of DuPont first. We raise it at the estimate.

Planning HOA maintenance

For HOAs, a simple maintenance plan helps: an annual walk-through to find new cracks and failed areas, crack sealing each fall, sealcoating every few years, and restriping as needed. Spreading work out that way keeps reserve spending predictable and avoids a large reconstruction bill.
