How We Approach a Paving Job
Asphalt Paving Olympia lays and maintains asphalt for homes, businesses, churches and HOAs across Olympia, Lacey, Tumwater and the rest of Thurston County, with trips north to the Lakewood and DuPont side and south toward Centralia and Chehalis. We build new driveways and parking lots, overlay tired pavement, patch failed areas, seal the surface and stripe commercial lots.
Pavement around the South Sound mostly fails from water. Olympia averages about 50 inches of rain a year, and the wettest stretch, November through January, is when edges soften, cracks fill and freeze on cold nights, and potholes open up. So an estimate starts with where the water goes: the slope of the lot, the low corners, the gutters and downspouts that empty onto the drive, and what sort of ground sits underneath.
That ground varies more than people expect. Parts of the county sit on gravelly glacial outwash that drains fast, while other lots sit on dense glacial till or in low swales that stay wet through winter. Before suggesting a rebuild, an overlay or a patch, we probe the soft areas and figure out why the old surface gave up.
What you can expect
- A site visit and a written quote that lists removal, base work, asphalt thickness, edges and any sealing or striping as separate lines.
- An honest answer when patching or sealing will do and a full replacement would be money you do not need to spend yet.
- Paving booked for the drier part of the year whenever the job allows, because hot asphalt does not compact well on wet, cold ground.
- A heads-up when your project reaches into the city or county right-of-way, where a separate permit can apply.
- No work starts until you approve the quote in writing, and any change in scope is written up for your sign-off.
